Hungarian Historical Paintings
Americo and Eva Makk dedicated a significant part of their artistic careers to honoring Hungary’s national heritage through an ambitious series of monumental historical paintings. This body of work captures pivotal moments across centuries of Hungarian history, with the aim of creating two large-scale compositions for each century—from the founding of the nation to its modern-day milestones.
Their deep cultural connection and artistic devotion culminated in a series of thirteen monumental works, each reflecting a defining era in Hungary’s past. These paintings are not only masterful achievements in technique and storytelling but also serve as visual archives of a proud national identity.
The significance of their efforts has been widely recognized. In 1986, a selection of these historical paintings was exhibited at the United States Senate Rotunda, marking the 30th anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution. Later, in May 2010, the Makks presented their thirteenth historical mural to the Museum of Hungarian Military History in Budapest, where their collection is now part of the museum’s permanent display.
Today, the Makk family’s Hungarian historical series continues to educate and inspire, preserving the legacy of Hungary’s triumphs, struggles, and cultural spirit for generations to come.
